There are six lakes along the trail that offer great campsites and ample fishing possibilities. Day hikes to the top, Fossil Lake, above the tree line offers excellent fishing too. Fishing doesn’t have to be our main source of food as we’ll have packed in other options as well.

Schedule:

One or two travel days to get to Red Lodge, Montana, depending on if you want to fly or drive? Five days / four nights of camping, with one to two days of had backpacking, depending on which lakes we want to set up campsites? Interspersed with day hikes, fishing, blueberry picking, rock climbing, swimming, campfires, s’mores, stories, jokes, games, etc.

You’ll see ALL the stars!

History:

East Rosebud Trail was once considered the most beautiful trail in North America. I’ve been on this trail several times, but it’s been over 25 years since I’ve last visited. If there were ever a perfect place to go backpacking, it’s here.

What to bring:

  • A solid backpack to carry all your gear (upwards of 50-pounds)

  • Good hiking boots

  • Tent

  • Sleeping bag that’s rated for cold weather, because it can get cold at night

  • If you’ve read this far, then we should talk about all the things you should bring and all the things you shouldn’t.

Where the hell is Roscoe?

Once we’ve hiked out, we’ll stop at the Grizzly Bar in Roscoe, Montana to eat, drink, and be merry.
